About This Course

Build your own finance tool with AI without coding; then use it to find different accounting issues in a realistic general ledger.

In this hands-on AI Finance course, you build a Journal Explorer: a simple tool that runs in your web browser and helps you review general-ledger journal entries. You do not write any code—the AI builds the tool from a ready-made prompt, and you are guided at every step.

What you will do:

  1. Build the Journal Explorer with one ready-made prompt and the course data.
  2. Check it: the AI tests all functions and writes a test log, and you run the few checks only you can do.
  3. Improve it with a second prompt that adds new functions.
  4. Find eleven accounting issues in the course journals with your new tool.
  5. Adapt it safely to your own company's journal exports.

What your tool will do:

  • Import a journal export from Excel and start reviewing immediately.
  • Filter by period, account, document type, partner, journal ID, business unit, cost centre or note—and combine filters without writing a single formula.
  • Switch from the matching lines to the complete journal, with every counter-entry in place.
  • Keep one review note per journal, visible wherever that journal line appears.
  • Chart one account's monthly Debit, Credit and Net movement combined with active filters.
  • Export all data to Excel and reimport it later to continue your work.
  • Upload revised journals to replace an existing month, or add journals for a new month.

Eleven accounting issues you will discover:

The fictitious course data contain eleven different issues, such as a posting in an unexpected direction, a near-duplicate journal, or a missing purchase-order reference. You learn to treat each one as a review lead to investigate, not as proof of an error.

Everything you need is included:

You receive detailed course notes and a copy-and-paste prompt library (33 pages), the course data, and the finished tool to try straight away. You start with safe, fictitious data and learn how to protect real company data before you use your own exports.

Who this course is for:

The Journal Explorer is built for

  • accountants and bookkeepers checking their own postings
  • GL team leads and chief accountants reviewing their team's journals and month-end postings
  • CFOs, finance managers and controllers following up large movements and unusual journals
  • FP&A professionals tracing cost-centre and business-unit movements
  • shared-services, internal-control and audit teams reviewing selected samples.

It is also for anyone who wants to learn to build a practical tool with AI—no coding or prior AI experience is required, and the same method works for your next tool.

My courses focus on practical applications of AI in accounting and finance, alongside fraud prevention, e-invoicing and financial reporting ethics. – AI Finance: Build and customise reconciliation tools and fraud dashboards using plain-language prompts (“vibe coding”), without prior programming experience. Learn to validate results, protect sensitive data and create repeatable workflows. – Fraud prevention and internal controls: Recognise red flags in invoices, payments, payroll and other transactions, and apply preventive controls and structured investigation methods. – E-invoicing: Understand global requirements, electronic invoice formats and opportunities to automate accounts payable and receivable. – Financial reporting ethics: Work through accounting judgments, estimates and ethical dilemmas using practical cases and decision-making tools. My teaching draws on 30 years of experience in accounting, finance leadership, internal and external audit, and transformation, including roles at Big4 firms, DELL, SSE and TOMRA. I am a Fellow of ACCA (FCCA) and the founder of E-LITE Consulting and RSAgile.
